And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men. - 1 Samuel 22:2
This passage from 1 Samuel speaks of when God called an unlikely and unique group of men to David in the Adullam cave. These were not the men David would choose for himself, but they were the ones God called to him. They had various issues, difficulties, and challenges in thier lives but all "gathered" themselves to David as thier captain.
